Gallery & Artists

The Frame Shed Gallery celebrates local artists from in and around the Surrey Hills. All work is for sale and can be purchased at The Frame Shed. The changing collection offers original art work, limited edition prints, etchings and framed photographs.

Based in Guildford, Sarah's work is a response to the landscapes in which she walks. Mostly working in acrylic, she captures the elemental nature and energy of a place rather than recording a literal interpretation.

" I like to contrast elements of tight, structured paint work with loose, atmospheric washes and gestural marks."

Nigel Sharman

Originally from the South West of England, Nigel's work is heavily influenced by the landscape and culture of Devon and Cornwall.

Nigel uses oil paint on canvas and has particular concern for colour and composition. He works with a limited palette of often muted colours which are built up over layers.

"While my formal artistic education took place in Brighton, I put my real education down to being dragged around Cornwall as a small boy by my father and introduced to work by Alfred Wallis and Ben Nicholson."

Catherine Mcvean

Catherine brings a contemporary approach to traditional subjects with a focus on colour, texture and composition. She has a particular interest in metal and glass for it's ability to reflect light and colour.

Catherine paints from life in order to best capture the emotion of a scene and her response to it.

" My paintings are a quiet celebration of everyday life."

Ruth Taylor

Ruth Taylor originally trained and has a degree in Printed Textiles. Now living on the Surrey/ Hampshire border Ruth has returned to painting. Her training as a textile designer is evident in her work. Using oil paint on board, Ruth applies paint directly to the surface and moves it around with brushes, combs and her hands. Her work takes the journey from the open heathland through the South Downs where she spent her childhood, down to the coastline of Cornwall.
